neighbour who lives just six metres away. A
slow-simmering romance develops between Ismail
and Celia. Meanwhile, dangers lead Fatima to his
doorstep. Each makes complicated demands of him,
ones he is uncertain he can meet.

Mother & Daughter Duo Poet Karen Kachra and
Artist Susan Skeaff
Susan graduated with a specialization in graphic
design from Ontario College of Art. She went on
to work in advertising, but has since revisited
her passion for drawing, photography and
painting. She works in pastel, acrylic, and
watercolour, her most recent series being
textured watercolour abstracts. However, she is
also often inspired by her Muskoka surroundings
and has a great love of nature. Susan belongs to
the Muskoka Artists' Association.
Karen has published essays and articles f or
Nebula, Impulse, and Mamazina Magazine. Her short
fiction has been featured in Maple Tree Literary
Supplement and Flashquake. Two chapters from her
recently completed novel, The Parasol Flower,
have been shortlisted in the Writers' Union of
Canada short prose competition and gritLIT 2010.
